Unemployment
Numbers Paint Wrong Picture.
The state's unemployment rate remained unchanged from May to June.
On Maui though, not only are we still losing jobs, but our County
unemployment rate is higher than the national average.
Resurrect the ERA. Congresswoman
Mazie K. Hirono wants to bring back the Equal Rights Amendment,
and figures Hawai'i is the place to start since Hawai'i was the
first state to ratify the bill in 1972.
New Brass at MPD, MFD.
There are four new Battalion Chiefs at the Maui Fire Department
- bringing a neded additional level of authority in times of fire
crisis. Meanwhile, Maui Police get a shiny new mobile command
post and a new Assistant Chief.
Also this week on Maui TV News:
"Painting a Volcano."
It sounds like a big job, and this week we see the progress of
23 Maui painters who set out to tackle the task.
A New Branch. Hawai'i National
Bank moves its Kihei branch to a location so close to the old
one, it looks like it might be from the same tree. But there's
more to the move than just better parking and new paint. We'll
take you there.
Also this week on Maui TV News, Hawaiian
Canoe Club has held onto the MCHCA crown for a quarter of a century.
And they'll be out for blood when they seek revenge in Hilo next
month.
