THE E-CYCLING PROGRAM, THAT HAS MET WITH GREAT SUCCESS ON MAUI FOR SEVERAL YEARS WILL BECOME LAW FOR HAWAII AND A DOZEN OTHER STATES AS OF THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. UNDER THE NEW LAW THE MANUFACTURERS OF DESKTOP AND LAPTOP COMPUTERS AND PERIPHERALS WILL BE REQUIRED TO TAKE BACK AND RECYCLE THOSE PRODUCTS. AND THE FIRST OF 2011, TV MANUFACTURERS WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED TO RECYCLE. THE LAW - DESIGNED TO KEEP ELECTRONICS OUT THE LANDFILL IS A LITTLE CONFUSING BECAUSE IT DOESN'T REQUIRE CONSUMERS TO RECYCLE - BUT THE MANUFACTURERS.

MAUI COUNTY OFFICIALS ARE HOPING TO EXPAND WORK FORCE HOUSING ON LANA'I. A 412-HOME PROJECT BUILT OUT OVER THE NEXT 20 YEARS WOULD EXPAND THE EXISTING SIZE OF LANA'I CITY. MOST HOMES ON THE PINEAPPLE ISLAND WERE BUILT IN THE 1930S AND 40S AS PLANTATION HOUSING.

ISLAND WEATHER - TONIGHT EXPECT PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND A LOW IN THE UPPER 50S. TOMORROW, EXPECT MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH ISOLATED SHOWERS AND HIGHS IN THE MID 80S.

FROM THE VISIONARY RADIO NEWS CENTER FOR MAUI TV NEWS, I'M JEFF KING.
