USUALLY ROAD CLOSURES DON'T MAKE HEADLINES - BUT THIS ONE'S PRETTY INTERESTING. NEXT WEEK SOUTH KIHEI ROAD BETWEEN OHUKAI AND UWAPO STREETS WILL BE CLOSED DAILY BETWEEN 7 A.M. AND 3-30 P.M. COUNTY CREWS WILL BE WORKING WITH A COMPANY CALLED CULTURAL SURVEYS HAWAII TO RESTORE SAND LOPPED OFF THE TOP OF SAND DUNES ALONG A SECTION OF SOUTH KIHEI ROAD LAST YEAR.. THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO TAKE A WEEK. THE WIND FENCES PUT UP SINCE THE DUNE REDUCTION HAVE BEEN HOLDING THE SAND BACK - BUT NO WORD ON WHETHER OR NOT THE FENCES WILL BE REINSTALLED TO KEEP THE SAND FROM COVERING THE ROAD AGAIN.

AND DESPITE THREATENING LOOKING CLOUDS -TODAY, OUR DROUGHT PERSISTS. SOUTH MAUI IS STILL LABELED AS EXTREMELY DRY WHILE THE KOHALA COAST OF THE BIG ISLAND IS RATED EXCEPTIONAL - THE DRIEST THERE IS.

ISLAND WEATHER, PARTLY CLOUDY TONIGHT WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS - HEAVY AT TIMES AND LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. TOMORROW – PARTLY SUNNY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND HIGHS IN THE MID TO UPPER 80S.

FROM THE VISIONARY RADIO NEWS CENTER FOR MAUI TV NEWS, I'M JEFF KING.
