J: MAHALO. THAT WAS THE MESSAGE AS OUR STATE'S OUTGOING LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR CAME TO MAUI TO THANK THOSE WHO TRIED TO HELP HIM GET THE TOP JOB. AND THE "A" IN K-P-A-T STANDS FOR ACTION - AND BOY DID THE KALAMA PARK ACTION TEAM EVER GET INTO THE ACT THIS WEEK.

(ON-CAM) THOSE ARE TWO OF OUR TOP STORIES THIS WEEK ON MAUI TV NEWS - PLUS WE'VE GOT DETAILS ON TWO NEW WEBSITES THAT TELL YOU - IN REAL TIME - WHETHER THAT HAZY AIR MAY BE A DANGER TO YOU.

IN SPORTS, MAUI TEAMS ARE ALL PAU IN FOOTBALL IN THE STATE PLAYOFFS. IN CURTAIN CALL, PAUL JANES-BROWN GIVES US A PREVIIEW OF A TREASURED ANNUAL HOLIDAY GIFT TO THE COMMUNITY FROM THE MAUI ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS. ALL THAT PLUS COMING ATTRACTIONS AND A PEEK AT "GET A JOB," THE NEWEST MOVIE ON - AND ABOUT - MAUI. IT'S ALL AHEAD THIS WEEK ON MAUI TV NEWS.

(intro-FF)

J: ALOHA EVERYONE AND THANK YOU FOR WATCHING MAUI TV NEWS. THIS IS MAUI'S EXCLUSIVE ONLINE AND TELEVISION NEWSCAST - IN HIGH DEFINITION. I'M JEFF KING. IT WAS HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS THIS WEEK FOR A MAJOR MAUI STAR. SHANE VICTORINO CAME HOME - HIS THIRD GOLD GLOVE IN HAND - AND INVITED SOME IMPRESSIVE FRIENDS - ALL FOR THE KIDS.

(TAKE VICTORINO PKG) SHANE VICTORINO IS A STAR. ON AND OFF THE FIELD. BUT ON ONE OF HIS HOMECOMING TRIPS EACH YEAR TO MAUI, HE BRINGSD A LEGION OF OTHER STARS FROM THE WORLDS OF SPORTS, BROADCASTING AND ENTERTAINMENT. THIS YEAS WAS THE THIRD ANNUAL SHANE VICTORINO FOUNDATION CELEBRITY DINNER AND GOLF CLASSIC. AFTER APPROPRIATE PROTOCOL AND OLI FROM KIMOKEAO KAPAHULEHUA, NEIL EVERETT OF E-S-P-N SPORTS CENTER FAME - WHO WAS ONCE A DISC JOCKEY ON MAUI'S KMVI RADIO - TOOK OVER THE INTRODUCTIONS FOR THE TOURNAMENT - AS WELL AS EMCEE DUTIES FOR THE DINNER.

VICTOINO WAS EVERYWHERE - FOREGOING HIS OWN ROUND OF GOLF TO BE SURE HE GOT TO STOP AND GET A GROUP PHOTO WITH EVERY FOURSOME. HE DID TAKE A MOMENT TO SMOOTH OUT SOME BUMPY SAND, SO WE GRABBED THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASK HIM WHAT - AFTER ALL HE'S ACCOMPLISHED OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, KEEPS HIM GOING.

Shave Victorino, Thrre-Time Gold Glove Winner

SV02: "You know what, I think every day the opportunity to go out there and play the game that I love - to play the game I played as a kid - and going out there and working hard. And, you kbnow, I want to play in a place like Philly - the support of the fans, the atmosphere that's created there. The love of showing up every day to the field. I think it never gets old. And I thank God that he keeps me healthy and lets me go out there every day and play the game that I love."

OFF-THE-RECORD, SHANE ADMITS THAT GOLF ISN'T ONE OF HIS ALL-TIME FAVORITE SPORTS, BUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO RAISE MONEY FOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS THRILLS HIM - AND GOLF ATTRACTS AN AFFLUENT CROWD - PARTICULARLY AMONG CELEBRITIES. BUT - ON THE TOPIC OF MONEY, SPORTSD FANS KNOW THAT SHANE VICTORINO IS STILL UNDERPAID COMPARED TO OTHER STARS, BUT HE IS MAKING ABOUT 36 TIMES AS MUCH AS HE MADE IN HIS ROOKIE YEAR. BUT HE PROMISES THAT HIS NEW-FOUND WEALTH ISN'T CHANGING THE WAY HE PLAYS.

sv02: No, not at all. It definitely gives you a little different ouitlook on life, meaning that you're able to give back to causes like this. To start a foundation and tio fund the foundation and to make it work and make it get up on its feet and go. Again, money's not the answer to everything in life. The opportunity to play the game I love. In regards to that, I'm able to make a living and able to give back. And, you know, it's like I told the kids at the Boys and Girls Club in Philly, it's not about the money - the dollar amount that I'm worried about. It's 10-15 years from now when some kid says, 'Shane Victorino made an impact on my life.' To me that means more than any dollar amount can."

AFTER A FEW SWINGS, ALONG WITH AN OCCASIONAL MULLIGAN, AND SOME PUTTING TIPS FROM SHANE'S DAD, MAUI COUNTY COUNCILMEMBER MIKE VICTORINO, AFTERNOON TURNED TO EVENING. WHILE BROWSERS PERUSED THE WIDE ARRAY OF AMAZING SPORTS MEMORIBILIA, SILEN AUCTION ITEMS WERE ENDLESS SOME OF THEM REALLY BIG...AND SOME NOT FOR SALE - LIKE SHANE'S 2009 GOLD GLOVE. THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF MAUI WILL BENEFIT FROM THE GENEROSITY OF SHANE, HIS STAR FRIENDS AND THE DOZENS OF MAUI BUSINESS LEADERS, AND CLUB C-P-O COLIN HANLON SAIS THE CLUBS AND ALL THE VICTORINOS ARE A PERFECT MATCH.

Colin Hanlon, Chief Professional Officer, Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui

CH01: "I think it fits with what his foundation is all about - which is giving back, specifically to the community of Maui and to Maui's children. Shane and his family, both Mike and Joycelyn as well, are really focused on our Boys and Girls Club unit in Paukukalo. I think it works out really well for both of us. "

AND IT'S A FUN CHANCE FOR OLD FRIENDS - AND CONTEMPORARIES TO COME TOGETHER, BUT THERE'S EVEN MORE TO THE EXPERIENCE.

Brandon League, O'ahu Native, Seattle Mariner

BL01: "Oh definitely more to it. It goes toward a good cause. Shane's got his own foundation. You know, giving back - hangin' out, seeing each other. It's the only time we get to see each other every year because we're in different divisions and stuff."

SHANE'S COUSIN, KANEKOA TEXERIA IS ALSO IMPRESSED WITH THE FOUNDATION WORK.

Kanekoa Texeria, Maui Native, Kansas City Royal

KT01: "I live and learn by what Shane does and does not do. He's my cousin and I'll follow him as far as I cano and. hopefully, one day I can get my own foundation."

NEIL EVERETT HAD GREAT PRAISE FOR SHANE AND HIS PARENTS AND SAYS HE SEES NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS IN THE YEARS AHEAD...BUT HE'S NOT SURE HOW ONE SHELF OF SHANE'S TROPHY CASE GETS CHOSEN.

Neil Everett, Anchor, ESPN Sports Center

NE01: "I honestly have no idea how they vote on a Gold Glove, so I think what I see for him is more All-Star games, which I think is a better barometer of the kind of baseball you are."

AND THERE WAS AN ENTIRE TABLE OF FUTURE SUPERSTARS THERE TO SOAK IT ALL IN. THE WAIPIO ALL STARS WHO FELL JUST SHORT OF THE WORLD LITTLE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP -WERE ALL THERE SATURDAY NIGHT TO SEE SOME OF THEIR IDOILS IN ACTION.

ALL IN ALL - THIS WAS A GREAT DAY. PERFECT WEATHER ON THE GOLF COURSE, GREAT FOOD AND DRINK ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT, A CHANCE TO RIDE OR DRIVE HOME IN A BRAND NEW MERCEDES OF HARLEY...AND IT WAS ALL FOR THE KIDS...PUT ON BY ONE OF MAUI'S FAVORITE SONS, THE ALL-STAR SHANE VICTORINO.

(ON-CAM TAG) IF YOU'D LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE SHANE VICTORINO FOUNDATION - AND HOW MUCH THIS BOUNDLESS ENERGY SUPERSTAR REALLY CARES ABOUT KIDS - GO TO MAUITVNEWS-DOT-COMAND FOLLOW THE LINKS TO THIS WEEK'S STORIES.

(DUKE-MAHALO)(PiP-Duke)

J: AFTER EIGHT YEARS AS THE ALOHA STATE'S NUMBER TWO IN COMMAND - LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DUKE AIONA CAME CLOSE TO GRABBING IT ALL. BUT EVEN THOUGH THAT WAS NOT TO BE, HE TOOK TIME TO SAY MAHALO TO THOSE WHO HELPED HIM WITH HIS DREAM.

(TAKE DUKE PKG) Lt. Gov. James R. "Duke" Aiona, Jr., Lt. Gov, State of Hawai'i

DA01: "We're here tonight to say thank you to all the supporters we had on Maui. We had...this campaign was all about grassroots and that's just what you have here tonight. Every person that you see here tonight - they're here because they wanted to be. We didn't bribe them. We didn't pay them. We didn't promise them anything. They becamse part of this campaign because they believed in what we stood for and we've always stood for honesty, itegrity, compassion and conservatism."///

MORE THAN A HUNDRED SUPPORTERS OF DUKE AIONA AND LYNN FINNEGAN'S GATHERED AT THE DOOR OF FAITH CHURCH IN WAIEHU TO TO SAY "YOU'RE WELCOME" TO AIONA AND FINNEGAN, DESPITE THEIR UNSUCCESSFUL BID TO TAKE OVER THE STATE'S TOP TWO JOBS. AND SPEAKING OF JOBS, THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR TALKED ABOUT HIS NEXT MOVE.

DA02: "Well, I have to get employed. I have two children still in school - we're going to have to finish them up, so I need to work. So I'm going to pursue something that's been a desire of my heart for a while. I can't say much more than that, but that looks very promising, so I think in the next couple of week's I'm going to be able to tell the people of Hawai'i what I'm doing for - at least - the next couple of years 'cuz I'm going to options open as far as whether I'm going to run again in 2014."///

AIONA SAYS IF HE DOES RUN IN 20-14, HE'D MAKE THAT ANNOUNCEMENT IN ABOUT TWO YEARS FROM NOW. AND HIS ONLY FOCUS WOULD BE ON THE JOB OF GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF HAWAI'I.

(ON-CAM TAG) THE SOON-TO-BE FORMER LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR SAYS HE ALREADY HAS HIS SIGHTS SET ON WHAT HE'LL DO NEXT AFTER NEIL ABERCROMBIE AND BRIAN SCHATS ARE SWORN IN NEXT WEEK. BUT - HE SAYS - WE'LL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT THAT IS.

(KALAMA-GRAFFITTI) (PiP-GRAFFITTI)

J: K-P-A-T. THEY CALL THEMSELVES THE KALAMA PARK ACTION TEAM AND NOBODY CAN DENY THE FACT "ACTION" IS THEIR MIDDLE NAME.

(FF-CG-VO) THIS PAST WEEKEND VANDALS TAGGED ALL SORTS OF SURFACES AT KALAMA PARK IN KIHEI. UNDER THE COVER OF DARKNESS, COWARDLY ARTISTS LEFT THEIR MARKS IN MANY SPOTS - CENTERING AROUND THE SKATE RAMPS AT THE PARK.

(ON-CAM) BUT THE INTREPID FORCES UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF LIS AND BOB RICHARDSON ROUNDED UP A CREW OF VOLUNTEERS TUESDAY MORNING AND BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. YUP, IT WAS K-PAT TO THE RESCUE.

(FF-CG-VO) SURFACES WERE RESTORED TO THEIR ORIGINAL GLORY. MAUI POLICE HAVE BEEN PROVIDED THE "BEFORE" PHOTOS TO SEE IF THEY CAN IDENTIFY THE PERSON, GROUP OR GROUPS RESPONSIBLE. AND THESE HUYS NEVER MISS A BEAT. THEY EVEN TOOK A PICTURE OF ONE CAR THAT THEY SWEAR MUST HAVE BEEN REPAINTED BY AN OVERZEALOUS DUMPSTER-PAINTING VOLUNTEER.

(ON-CAM TAG) THE KALAMA PARK ACTION WILL TAKE TO THE PATHWAYS OF THE PARK AGAN ON FRIDAY EVENING DECEMBER 10TH. IF YOU'D LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT K-PAT - INCLUDING HOW YOU CAN BE INVOLVED, GO TO MAUITVNEWS-DOT-COM AND FOLLOW THE LINK TO THIS WEEK'S STORIES.

(A-TOSS-B)

J: UP NEXT ON MAUI TV NEWS, WHEN IT'S HAZY OUTSIDE IS IT JUST HAZE, OR COULD IT BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH? THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH NOW HAS BETTER ANSWERS TO THAT QUESTION. WE'LL EXPLAIN UP NEXT. AND "GET A JOB" THE NEWEST MOVIE ON, ABOUT AND FOR MAUI WILL DEBUT THIS WEEKEND AND YOU'RE INVITED. WE'LL HAVE THOSE STORIES AND MORE WHEN MAUI TV NEWS CONTINUES.

(B-BLOCK)

(AIR/WATER/WEB)(PiP-SMOKY SKY))

J: NOT EVERY DAY IS PREISTINE, PICTURE PERFECT HERE ON MAUI. OCCASSIONALLY THERE'S A CANE BURN OR, WORSE YET, A WILDFIRE BURN. OR, SOMETIMES IT'S VOG - DRIFTING NORTHWEST ACROSS THE ISLAND CHAIN FROM THE ACTIVE ERUPTIONS ON THE BIG ISLAND. THE HAWAI'I STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HAS LAUNCHED A NEW WEBSITE THAT CAN TELL YOU WHAT'S IN THE AIR - AND WHETHER OR NOT ITS HARMFUL.

(FF-CG-VO) THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT HAS LINKED THE DATA FROM 13 AIR QUALITY MONITORING STATIONS ACROSS THE STATE - INCLUDING THE ONE IN KIHEI. ANYTIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT YOU CAN CHECK IN N THE AIR QUALITY READINGS, THE MAP EVEN HAS A COLOR-CODED ADVISORY SYSTEM FOR CONDITIONS AT EACH MONITORING STATION.

(ON-CAM) THE COLOR-CODING SYSTEM, WHICH RANGES FROM GREE - FOR HEALTHY TO MAROON FOR - NOT, IS BASED ON THE FEDERAL E-P-A AIR QUALITY STANDARDS. IN ADDITION TO THE 24/7 DATA AVAILABLE STATEWIDE, THERE'S A SPECIAL SECTION FOR BIG ISLAND RESIDENTS ON THE SULPHUR DIOXIDE OUTPUTS FROM VOLCANIC ACTIVITY THERE.

(AIR/WATER/WEB)(PiP-SMOKY SKY)

J: AND WATER QUALITY IS THE FOCUS OF ANOTHER NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. IT'S NOT ONLY HANDY INFORMATION - BUT IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE BY KEEPING YOU OUT OF POLLUTED WATERS.

(FF-CG-VO) THIS WEEK FOR EXAMPLE THE NEW WEBSITE REPORTED TWO SEWAGE SPILLS AFFECTING WATER ENTHUSIASTS IN HONOLULU. A LEGEND ON THE MAP SHOWS YOU WHERE TO CLICK FOR THE DETAILS ABOUT THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT, HOW BAD IT IS - AND WHEN IT MIGHT BE SAFE TO BACK INTO THE WATER.

(ON-CAM) BEFORE THIS WEBSITE, UNLESS YOU CHECKED FOR ONLINE UPDATES FROM NEWS SOURCES, YOU MIUGHT HAVE NO IDEA OF POTENTIAL HAZARDS. NOW YOU CAN CHECK BEFORE YOU GO.

FOR THE LINK TO EACH OF THE NEW AIR AND WATER QUALITY WEBSITES, JUST GO TO OUR WEBSITE. CLCIK ON THE LINK TO THIS WEEK'S STORIES AT MAUITVNEWS-DOT-COM.

(FEMA-FIRES)(PiP-HOUSE ON FIRE)

j; SINCE WE'RE TALKING SAFETY AND GOOD HEALTH, HERE ARE SOME FACTS YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THANKSGIVING. EACH YEAR ON TURKEY DAY, ACROSS THE U.S. THERE ARE MORE THAN 2,000 FIRES DIRECTLY RELATED TO COOKING. THOSE FIRES RESULT IN AN ANNUAL AVERAGE OF FIVE DEATHS, 25 INJURIESAND MORE THAN 21 MILLION DOLLARS IN DAMAGE. MOST OF THOSE FIRES HAPPEN BETWEEN NOON AND FOUR P.M. AND SMOKE ALARAMS WERE NOWEHERE TO BE FOUND IN AT LEAST 20 PERCENT OF THOSE FIRES.

FEMA - THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY - HAS JOINED WITH FIRE DEPARTMENTS ACROSS THE U.S. - INCLUDING HAWAI'I - ISSUED A LIST OF SIMPLE, YET EASY-TO-OVERLOOK THINGS THAT - IF OVERLOOKED - CAN LEAD TO DISASTER. YOUR THANKSGIVING TURKEY MAY BE NOTHING BUT LEFTOVERS AND SOUP STOCK BY NOW, BUT THERE'S A LOT OF COOKING DONE BETWEEN NOW AND CHRISTMAS, SO HERE ARE A FEW POINTERS.

(FF-CG-VO) KEEP A CLOSE WATCH ON YOUR COOKING. NEVER LEAVE COOKING FOOD UNATTENDED. KEEP FOOD PACKAGING AWAY FROM BURNERS AND OTHER HEAT SOURCES. THEY CAN CATCH FIRE QUICKLY. IF YOU'RE DOING THAT DEEP-FRIED TURKEY THING, BE SURE TO HEAT THE OIL SLOWLY AND WATCH IT CLOSELY. COOKING OILO CAN IGNITE QUICKLY. DON'T WEAR LOOSE LONG SLEEVES AROUND BURNERS OR HOT OIL. THEY CAN BURN OR MELT - WITH YOU STILL IN THEM. SET UP A "KID-FREE" ZONE AT LEAST THREE FEET AROUND ANY HEATING SOURCE. AND KEEP A PAN LID NEARBY TO SMOTHER SMALL FIRES. SMOTHER THE FIRE BY SLIDING THE LID OVER THE FLAME AND TURNING OFF THE HEAT SOURCE. LEAVE THE PAN COVERED UNTIL IT IS COMPLETELY COOL.

(ON-CAM TAG) THIS IS ALSO A GOOD TIME OF YEAR TO CHECK THE SMOKE ALARMS AT YOUR HOUSE. IF THEY'RE MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD, THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE SENSORS DO WEAR OUT. THERE ARE EVEN MORE HOLIDAY SAFE-COOKING AND LIVING TIPS FROM FEMA. TO SEE A COMPLETE LIST, GO TO MAUITVNEWS-DOT-COM AND FOLLOW THE LINK TO THIS WEEK'S STORIES.

(B-TOSS-C)

J: UP NEXT ON MAUI TV NEWS, THEY WERE MAUI'S LAST HOPE TO ADVANCE IN THE STATE FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS. UP NEXT WE'LL TELL YOU HOW LAHAINALUNA FARED LAST WEEKEND IN THE SEMI-FINAL ROUND. AND - WITH THANKSGIVING BEHIND US, IT'S FULL SPEED AHEAD TO CHRISTMAS. PAUL JANES-BROWN HAS A PREVIEW OF AN ANNUAL HOLIDAY TREAT. HIS REPORT IS UP NEXT IN CURTAIN CALL WHEN MAUI TV NEWS COMES BACK.

(C-BLOCK)

J: CHECKING SPORTS, MAUI'S LAST HOPE IN THE STATE FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS ENDED AS SOON AS IT BEGAN LAST WEEK. ON FRIDAY NIGHT THE LUNAS OF LAHAINALUNA HIGH SCHOOL WENT OUT IN THE STATE SEMI-FINALS IN DIVISION TWO - LOSING TO KAIMUKI IN AN OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER. THE FINAL SCORE WAS 28 TO 27. THE STATE PLAYOFFS CONTINUE THIS WEEKEND ON O'AHU.

(CURTAIN CALL)(PiP-PJB)

J: NOW THAT THANKSGIVING IS OVER, IT’S TIME TO FOCUS IN ON CHRISTMAS AND THAT MEANS TSCHIAKOWSKY’S NUTCRACKER. MAUI ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS WILL BE PRODUCING NUTCRACKER SWEETS - AN ADAPTATION OF THE CLASSIC TALE AT THE MAUI THEATER IN LAHAINA ON DECEMBER 5, PAUL JANES-BROWN WENT TO A REHEARSAL AND HAS THIS PREVIEW.

PJB: PETER ILLYICH TSCHIAKOWSKY’S NUTCRAKER SUITE HAS BECOME ASSOCIATED WITH CHRISTMAS AS MUCH AS JOY TO THE WORLD AND DECK THE HALLS. MAUI ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS HAS BEEN AFFILIATED WITH PREVIOUS NUTCRACKERS, BUT THIS WILL BE THE FIRST ONE THAT THEY HAVE PRODUCED THEMSELVES, AND IT PROMISES TO BE AN EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED. THE REASON FOR MY EXCITEMENT IS A SENSATIONAL GROUP OF PRIMA BALLERINAS IN WAITING. THE LAST TIME MAPA PRODUCED SUCH REMARKABLE DANCERS, IT WAS FIVE YEARS AGO IN THE KALANI ROSELLE, ALI MCKEON AND TALIA SCHULZ ERA. I STILL REMEMBER THE PERFORMANCE THAT MCKEON DID AT THE MAUI POPS THE WEEK AFTER THE HAWAII BALLET PRESENTED IT’S FULL BLOWN NUTCRACKER WITH SUPPOSED MAINLAND STARS. IN MY YEAR IN REVIEW COLUMN I SAID “ALI MCKEON TURNED IN THE BEST INDIVIDUAL DANCE PERFORMANCE AT THE DEBUT CONCERT OF THE WONDERFUL MAUI POPS ORCHESTRA. MCKEON, TRAINED BY THE MAUI ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS’ OUTSTANDING TEACHERS, TOOK ON THE VERY SAME SOLO THAT PROFESSIONAL AMANDA SCHULL PHONED IN DURING BALLET HAWAII’S PRODUCTION OF “THE NUTCRACKER” THE WEEK BEFORE AND PERFORMED MORE COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT CHOREOGRAPHY THAN SCHULL AND DID IT FLAWLESSLY.”

NOW THERE IS A NEW ERA AND YOU HAVE TO GET OVER TO THE MAUI THEATER WHERE `ULALENA USUALLY HOLDS COURT TO SEE IT ON DEC 5. LET’S CALL IT (IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER) THE BALDWIN, DEFOREST, DIRENFELD, PATTERSON, SOMA ERA; FIVE NAMES – SIX DANCERS.

THESE SIX DANCERS HAVE WORKED VERY HARD TO GET TO THE LEVEL THEY ARE AT. JADE AND ELLE DIRENFELD HAVE SPENT THE LAST THREE SUMMERS ON THE MAINLAND STUDYING WITH THE FAMED BOLSHOI BALLET AND JADE HAS BEEN ASKED TO COME TO MOSCOW TO TRAIN AT THE WORLD RENOWNED BOLSHOI ACADEMY. HER PARENTS ARE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING THIS. BALDWIN, DEFOREST, PATTERSON AND SOMA SPENT THEIR SUMMERS RESPECTIVELY AT PACIFIC NORTHWEST BALLET IN SEATTLE, BALLET WEST IN UTAH, CAROLINA BALLET AND SOMA WAS THE YOUNGEST GIRL ACCEPTED INTO THE AMERICAN BALLET THEATER’S COVETED NEW YORK CITY PROGRAM WHERE SHE WAS ONE OF ONLY FOUR GIRLS CHOSEN TO SOLO.

TSCHIAKOWSKY’S NUTCRACKER HAS BECOME A BREAD AND BUTTER PRODUCTION OF BALLET COMPANIES THE WORLD OVER BECAUSE IT HAS PARTS FOR EVERYONE IN THE COMPANIES’ SCHOOLS AND THE SECOND ACT HAS SEVERAL GREAT NUMBERS INCLUDING THE GRAND PAS DE DEUX BETWEEN THE CAVALIER AND THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRY. ALSO THE DEW DROP AND SNOW QUEEN HAVE GREAT DANCES. AND THE PROGRAM PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE BEST YOUNG MALE AND FEMALE DANCERS IN A COMPANY TO SHOW WHAT THEY CAN DO.

MAPA’S TALENT POOL IS SO DEEP THAT THESE ROLES, RESERVED THE COMPANIES’ PRIMA BALLERINAS ARE BEING ROTATED IN THE TWO PERFORMANCES THEY WILL PRESENT ON DECEMBER 5. THE FIRST PERFORMANCE WILL BE AT 3 AND THE SECOND AT 7 P.M. I INTEND TO SEE BOTH PERFORMANCES, BECAUSE I WANT TO SEE JADE DIRENFELD AT 3 P.M. AND THE SOMA AT 7 P.M. IN THE GRAND PAS DE DEUX. THEY WILL BE PARTNERED BY DEREK SAKAKURA A PRINCIPAL BALLET DANCER AND TEACHER FOR OVER FIFTEEN YEARS, HE WILL PERFORM THE ROLES OF CAVALIER AND SNOW KING. CURRENTLY PERFORMING THE ROLE OF TARO IN ULALENA, HE HAS WORKED ALL OVER THE WORLD WITH MAJOR DANCE COMPANIES, INCLUDING JOFFREY BALLET OF CHICAGO, SAN FRANCISCO OPERA BALLET, BALLET HAWAII AND BALLET AUSTIN. IN THE DUAL ROLES OF THE SNOW QUEEN WILL BE SOMA AT THREE AND PATTERSON AT 7. PATTERSON AND JADE DIRENFELD SWITCH OFF ON THE DEW DROP FAIRY WITH PATTERSON IN THE ROLE AT 3 AND JADE DIRENFELD AT 7. JADES’S SISTER ELLA PLAYS CLARA IN THE EARLY SHOW AND MICHELLE BALDWIN WILL DO IT IN THE FINAL SHOW. YOU HAVE TO SEE DEFOREST’S ARABIAN, BEING A FORMER GYMNIST, DEFOREST BRINGS SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL AND YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYES WHEN SHE DOES A BACKBEND WITH A SPECIAL TWIST.

SOMA AND JADE ARE ONLY 14 YEARS OLD AND THEIR TECHNIQUE, POISE AND PARTNERING ARE MATURE WAY BEYOND THEIR YEARS! I CANNOT EMPHASIZE HOW EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED, DEDICATED AND MATURE THIS GROUP OF YOUNG WOMEN IS…MY ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT IS THAT THERE ARE NOT AN EQUALLY GREAT GROUP OF YOUNG MEN. IT’S TIME FOR SOME ONE TO STEP UP AND ACTIVELY WORK ON DEVELOPING AN ACADEMY FOR BOYS AS WELL AS GIRLS.

FOR MORE INFORMATION GO TO WWW.MAUITVNEWS.COM AND CLICK ON THE LINK TO COMING ATTRACTIONS.

THAT’S CURTAIN CALL FOR THIS WEEK, I’M PAUL JANES-BROWN, A HUI HOU AND MAKE SURE TO GO SUPPORT OUR HARD WORKING ARTISTS WHO ARE DEDICATED TO MAKING OUR LIVES RICHER, STAY TUNED FOR COMING ATTRACTIONS UP NEXT RIGHT AFTER THESE MESSAGES.
