J: IT WAS "FINAL APPROACH" AFTER ALL AS THE BANKRUPTCY JUDGE REFUSED TO BLOCK THE SHUTDOWN OF ALOHA AIRLINES LATE MONDAY.

JY: AND AT THE END OF THE DAY MONDAY, THE FINAL FLIGHT WAS A FLOOD OF HUGS, TEARS AND CHEERS. WE'LL TAKE YOU THERE.

J: ALSO FROM THE AIR THIS WEEK, THE MAYOR AND CONGRESSWOMAN MAZIE HIRONO GOT A TOUR OF SOME OF MAUI'S NEEDIEST ROAD AND HARBOR PROJECTS. WE'LL HAVE THEIR REACTIONS.

JY: IN SPORTS, AFTER KNOCKING KAMEHAMEHA FROM THE RANKS OF THE UNDEFEATED FRIDAY NIGHT, COULD THE SABERS DO IT AGAIN SATURDAY? KALAPANA WILL HAVE THE ANSWER AND HIGHLIGHTS IN SPORTS ON MAUI TV NEWS.

J: AND, CLASSIC MUSICALS TO CLASSIC CARS. HOLLY CHUNG HAS THE DETAILS ON TONS OF EXTREMELY FUN THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN COMING ATTRACTIONS THIS WEEK ON MAUI TV NEWS.

(intro-FF)

Open (TWO SHOT)

J: ALOHA EVERYONE, AND WELCOME TO THIS WEEK'S EDITION OF MAUI TV NEWS. I'M JEFF KING.

JY: AND I'M JULIE Y. ON THE HEELS OF LAST WEEK'S TRAGIC ECONOMIC NEWS THAT MOLOKAI RANCH WAS CLOSING, THIS WEEK THE ENTIRE STATE GOT A BLAST OF IT.

(Turn to cam) ALOHA AIRLINES GROUNDED ALL FLIGHTS ONCE AND FOR ALL MONDAY - DESPITE ELEVENTH-HOUR ATTEMPTS BY THE GOVERNOR TO KEEP THEM ALOFT. MAUI TV NEWS REPORTER JEFF KING HAS THE STORY.

(Take Aloha Pkg Pkg) KAHULUI AIRPORT STILL LOOKS THE SAME - AND MAYBE THEY'LL LEAVE THIS SIGN UP...AS A WELCOME, BUT THIS PAST MONDAY IT WAS ANYTHING BUT BUSINESS AS USUAL. WHILE ALWAYS-FRIENDLY AGENTS REMAINED HELPFUL TO THE END, BUSINESS DECISIONS WERE AGAIN CITED AS THE REASON THE END OF ALOHA WAS AT HAND.

THE COMPANY HAD FILED BANKRUPTCY FOR THE SECOND TIME IN FOUR YEARS AND HAD NOT MADE A PROFIT IN SEVERAL YEARS. ALOHA CEO DAVID BANMILLER BLAMED THE FINAL DEATH BLOW ON MESA AIRWAYS AND WHAT HE CALLED "PREDATORY PRICING" ON GO AIRLINES THAT SIMPLY OUTLASTED ALOHA.

THREE TIMES IN IT'S LATER YEARS, ALOHA TRIED TO MERGE WITH HAWAIIAN AIRLINES - WHO HAS CERTAINLY SEEN THEIR SHARE OF TURBULENCE IN THE SKIES OVER HAWAII. ALL THREE TIMES FAILED. MANY WILL LONG REMEMBER THE TRAGIC 1988 INCIDENT WHEN THE CEILING BLEW OFF THE FIRST CLASS SECTION OF A BOEING 737. ONE CREWMEEMBER WAS SUCKED OUT OF THE PLANE AS IT APPROACHED MAUI AND 57 PEOPLE WERE INJURED. BUT THE EARLY IMAGES ALSO LINGER - INCLUDING THE FIRST STWARDESS UNIFORMS OF TRANSPACIFIC AIRLINES, THE FIRST TURBOPROP FOR ALOHA IN 1959, THEIR FIRST JET IN 1966 AND THEIR FIRST DC-10 IN 1984.

THROUGHOUT IT ALL, THE ENDURING IMAGE OF ALOHA AIRLINES HAS BEEN THE BIRD...OF PARADISE. AND AS OF MONDAY, THAT BIRD HAD FLOWN. BUT THOSE ALOHA FAITHFUL WERE TRUE TO THEIR JOBS TO THE VERY END. REPORTING FROM KAHULUI FOR MAUI TV NEWS, I'M JEFF KING.

(Mayor Reax) (PiP-Aloha Logo)

J: STILL REELING AT THE IMPACT OF DOUBLING THE UNEMPLOYEMENT NUMBERS ON MOLOKA'I LAST WEEK, SUDDENLY THERE ARE 19-HUNDRED MORE PEOPLE WITHOUT JOBS IN HAWAII - INCLUDING 500 IN MAUI COUNTY.

THE SCENE AT GATE 11 MAY HAVE LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD ANY OTHER FLIGHT FOR FLIGHT 261 FROM KAHULUI TO HONOLULU. BUT IT WASN'T. AS THE ALOHA GROUND CREW WAITED, THE ATMOSPHERE WAS VERY MUCH LIKE A PARTY WAS ABOUT TO ERUPT. AND THEN IT DID.

IT WAS LIKE OLD FRIENDS WHO HADN'T SEEN EACH OTHER IN YEARS. THERE SMILES HUGS AND TEARS...AND AS MUCH OF A PARTY AS YOU CAN HAVE IN THE TIME IT TAKES TO PREPARE AN ALOHA 737 FOR A TURNAROUND TRIP TO HONOLULU. WHIOE CELEBRATING CONTINUED, THE INITIAL GATE ANNOUNCEMENTS WERE MADE - BUT NOBODY COULD HEAR. THERE WERE TOO MANY HUGS TO GIVE.

AFTER A FEW MORE HUGS, THE REAL GATE ANNOUNCEMENT MEANT IT WAS REALLY HAPPENEING. IT WAS REALLY THE LAST ALOHA AIRLINES FLIGHT.

CHARLENE KINOSHITA WENT TO SCHOOL FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF WORKING FOR ALOHA AIRLINES SOME DAY. SHE'S BEEN WITH THE COMPANY SEVEN YEARS. SHE WENT TO SCHOOL WITH THE GOAL OF WORKING FOR ALOHA. NOW, SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT.

Charlene Kinoshita, Aloha Emploee - 7 years

CK01: "No. No. I think have to think about life right now. this is the company I wanted to work for and if they go down, I go down too. I don't think of anyone else right now."

THE LAST PASSENGERS AND IT'S TIME TO CLOSE THE DOORS. MEANWHILE, ON THE RAMP, THE ENTIRE ALOHA RAMP CREW CAME TO CHEER OFF THE LAST BIRD. BUT AS THE DOOR CLOSED FOR THE LAST TIME, AND THE MATAIO KEKUANAOA PUSHED BACK FOR THE LAST TIME, THE REALITY WAS SETTLING IN HARDER AND HARDER.

A MORE SOLEMN CREW WALKED TO THE EDGE OF THE RAMP AND ONE MAJOR SHAKA SENT THE BIRD OF PARADISE OFF ON HER OWN.

WITH THE TWIN JETS AT FULL POWER...IT WAS - IRONICALLY - THE QUIETEST MOMENT OF THE NIGHT. THE 737 RUMBLED DOWN THE RAMP WITH EVERY EYE GLUED TO THE IMAGE OF THE END OF AN ERA...UNTIL THE WINGTIP LIGHTS FADED INTO THE NIGHT.

(VO) CK02: "We all thought this would never happen...not in a million years.

(Tavares/Hirono-Infrastructure)(PiP: Mazie)

JY: MAYOR TAVARES, HERSELF, TOOK TO THE SKIES LAST WEEK ALONG WITH SOME PRETTY POWERFUL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS. THEIR MISSION: EXPLORE MAUI'S INFRASTRUCTURE TROUBLE SPOTS IN HOPES OF GETTING THE MONEY THEY NEED TO FIX THEM. MAUI TV NEWS ASKED HER ABOUT WHAT SHE SAW - AND WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN NEXT.

(Take Aerial Pkg) ON THE LEFT IS U.S. CONGRESSWOMAN MAZIE HIRONO, WHOSE 2ND U.S. DISTRICT INCLUDES ALL OF HAWAII - EXCEPT FOR PORTIONS OF 'OAHU. LAST THURSDAY SHE WENT ON A HELICOPTER RIDE WITH MAUI COUNTY MAYOR CHARMAINE TAVARES, AND A VISITOR FROM MINNESOTA.

ct01: "He said, whoa! when referring to our topography. When he saw the Piilani highway, he said that's not a road that's a horse trail. He saw the challenges of the steep cliffs and having to cut into the mountainside so much rockfall mitigation that requires the chain to catch the rocks like along the Honopiilani along the Pali."

"HE" IS CONGRESSMAN JIM OBERSTAR, A FIRST-TIME MAUI VISITOR, AND A VERY INTERESTED OBSERVER ON THIS TRIP

CT03: "And we talked about isolation how at any time any community could be isolated. And as we came around Kipahulu, to hana we showed him the bay...pier...barge for abandoned cars and white goods...expensive to truck. Barge could bring them to Kahului and they could be shipped from there. So he was very interested in that part."

MH01: "I think Chairman Oberstar was impressed with what he saw. Mayor Tavares was tremendous in explaining isolation - east side. this was his first visit to Hawaii and I wanted him to see at least one other island besides O'ahu and that was Maui. He needed to see the beauty and the fragility of Maui. We definitely have a 'friend of Hawaii now,"

(on-cam tag) THAT FIRST-TIME MAUI VISITOR, MINNESOTA CONGRESSMAN JIM OBERSTAR, IS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE POWERFUL TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE COMMITTEE - AND ONE OF THE MOST PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON WHEN IT COMES TO THE KINDS OF NEEDS HE WAS SHOWN DURING THE HELICOPTER TOUR. HOW POWERFUL? WHEN THAT MINNEAPOLIS BRIDGE COLLAPSED LAST YEAR OVER TGHE MISSISSIPPI RIVER, 13 LIVES WERE LOST. OBERSTAR WAS ABLE TO PASS EMERGENCY FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO REBUILD THE SPAN - A 250-MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT. THE ENTIRE STRUCTURE IS BEING REBUILT IN A SPAN OF ONLY 14 MONTHS.

(Toss to B Block)

J: COMING UP NEXT ON MAUI TV NEWS, AUTOMATED OPALA PICKUP IS FINALLY COMING TO THE WEST SIDE - AND UPCOUNTRY, TOO. WE'LL HAVE THE DETAILS ON THAT - PLUS DETAILS ON WHY SO MANY OF THOSE TRASH CAN LIDS ARE BREAKING - AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.

JY: AND, ORIGINAL ART FROM A BALDWIN HIGH STUDENT WILL HANG IN THE NATION'S CAPITOL FOR A YEAR. WE'LL TELL YOU WHY WHEN WE COME BACK.

J: AND WE'LL ALSO HAVE AN UPDATE ON THE RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING ADDING SOLAR ENERGY POWER TO YOUR HOME. THAT, AND ROBOTICS WHEN MAUI TV NEWS CONTINUES.

B BLOCK

(Automated Pickup)(PiP-TrashTruck)

JY: HOW ABOUT A LITLE "TRASH TRIVIA?" LANAI WAS THE VERY FIRST COMMUNITY IN HAWAI'I TO GET AUTOMATED OPALA PICKUP. THAT HAPPENED BACK IN 2002. NOW, THINGS HAVE COME FULL-CIRCLE AS TWO MORE MAUI COMMUNITIES ARE ALMOST THE LAST IN THE STATE TO GET THE SERVICE. MAUI TV NEWS REPORTER JEFF KING HAS THE DETAILS.

(Take opala pkg) NICELY LINED UP AND AWAITING THE LONE TRASHMAN. NOW, LAHAINA AND MOST OF UPCOUNTRY WILL JOIN THE REST OF MAUI IN AUTOMATED REFUSE COLLECTION. SOME 7,000 HOUSEHOLDS WILL BENEFIT FROM THE MORE EFFICIENT AND CONVENIENT SYSTEM. MAYOR CHARMAINE TAVARES GATHERED HER ENVIRONMENTAL DIRECTOR AND STAFF LAST WEEK - ALONG WITH MEMBERS OF THE UNITED PUBLIC WORKERS UNION TO FORMALIZE THE DEAL. IN ADDITION TO RECEIVING YOUR SHINY NEW 96-GALLON BIN, TRASH WILL BE PICKED UP UPCOUNTRY AND IN LAHAINA TWICE A WEEK BEGINNING IN JULY. AND THERE'S A BENEFIT TO THE CREW, TOO.

Dayton Nakanelua, HI State Diretor, , United Public Workers Union.

18:34-DN01: "There is benefit to the workers in experiential in that there is less injury to our workers with the automated system as compared to the manual system, so it's a win-win for our communities ." 18:58

THE NEW AGREEMENT ALSO CALLS FOR A PILOT PROGRAM TO IMPROVE THE SYSTEM OF BULKY APPLIANCE PICKUP IN MAUI COUNTY. THE CURENT SYSTEM WAS DESCRIBED BY NAKANELUA AS

DN02: 19:19-19:24 "A helter skelter kind of means."

THE MAYOR AGREED AND ASSURED THE PUBLIC THAT PILOT PROGRAM WITH THE UPW WOULD GREATLY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF DISCARDED LARGE APPLIANCES OFTEN FOUND ALONG MAUI ROADSIDES. ONE ISSUE WE ASKED ABOUT WAS THE LIDS THAT KEEP CRACKING AT THE HINGES - IN SOME CASES DISAPPEARING.

Cheryl Okuma, Director - Dept of Environmental Management, County of Maui

CO01: "I understand that's a problem with the product. And as a result we are having those lids coming in to do those replacements. If people are having a problem with the lids they can give our office a call and they can get that replaced."

THAT NUMBER IS 270-8230. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PEN HANDY, JUST VISIT OUT WEBSITE AT MAUITVNEWS-DOT-COM AND CLICK ON THE LINK FOR THIS WEEK'S SHOW. THE DEPARTMENT IS ADDING MORE OF THE SPECIALIZED AND HIGHLY MANEUVERABLE TRUCKS, AND IS ALSO TAKING A SERIOUS LOOK AT ADDING AUTOMATED COLLECTION IN HANA AND ON MOLOKAI.

(on-cam tag) FOR THE ANSWERS TO THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AUTOMATED TRASH PICKUP, FOLLOW THE LINK FROM OUR WEBSITE AT MAUITVNEWS-DOT-COM.

(Congressional Art)(PiP-Baldwin Artist)

J: THIS IS A GOOD TIME TO BE AN ARTIST ON MAUI. ART MAUI CONTINUES THROUGH THIS WEEKEND AT THE SCHAEFER GALLERY AT THE MAUI ARTS AND CULTURAL CENTER AND - SOON - THE WINNERS OF THE ART MAUI SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST WILL BE ANNOUNCED. BUT HOW ABOUT THE CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR ORIGINAL ART DISPLAYED IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING IN WASHINGTON DC.

CONGRESSWOMAN MAZIE HIRONO WAS ON MAUI LAST FRIDAY TO UNVEILE THE WINNERS OF THE 27TH ANNUAL CONGRESSIONAL ART CONTEST. STUDENTS FROM ACROSS HAWAII SUBMITTED PIECES AND COLLEGE ART PROFESSORS CHOSE THE TOP THREE, INCLUDING A MAUI ENTRY THAT CAME IN SECOND.

MH01: "This is the second place winner and it will be framed and hang in my office in Washington for an entire year. The Third place winner will hang in my office in Hawaii. And the first Place winner will hang in a large walkway where thousands of people pass every day on their way to and from the Capitol Building."

AMANDA BOWERS TITLED HER PIECE "POLLUTION," A STUDY IN CONTRASTS, DONE IN WOOD, PAINT, INK AND PAPER AND FEATURED THE IMAGE OF A FISH - WITH A GUN INSIDE OF IT.

Baldwin High Student, Amanda Bowers - 2nd Place

AB01: "I hoped I would win but there's - like - a lot of good artists competing but I hoped I would win."

AMANDA HAS SUBMITTED FIVE OF HER OTHER ORIGINALS FOR CONSIDERATION THE ART MAUI SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST. THIS PIECE GAINED MOMENTUM AS SHE CONTINUED TO WORK ON IT, WHICH BRINGS UP THE QUESTION, AS AN ARTIST, HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU'RE DONE?

ABO2: "You know you're done when you feel like the art represents you enough - like well enough. And you feel that when people look at it they'll feel what you feel - what you put into it."

CONGRESSWOMAN HIRONO SAID SHE'S LOOKING FORWARD TO THE VARIETY OF REACTIONS OF PEOPLE TO THE NEW WORK OF ART IN THE D.C. OFFICE.

MH02: "(laughs) "That's what art is supposed to do. It piques people's interest. It evokes different feelings and criticisms. Curiosity. And that's what art should do."

(on-cam tag) THERE ARE 435 NEW, ORIGINAL WORKS OF ART DISPLAYED EARH YEAR BEGINNING IN APRIL IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING - ONE FOR EACH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT IN THE U.S.

(HANDS-FREE CPR)(PiP-AMA logo)

JY: C-P-R BY MOUTH-TO-MOUTH RESUCCITATION. THAT'S THE WAY MOST OF US LEARNED IT IN FIRST AID CLASS. BUT THE IDEA OF ORAL CONTACT HAS LIKELY DETERRED MANY WELL-INTENTIONED GOOD SAMARITANS IN ACTUAL EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.

WELL, NOT ANY MORE. IN A MAJOR POLICY CHANGE, THE AMERIVCAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION SAID MONDAY THAT HANDS-ONLY C-P-R - RAPID, DEEP PRESSES ON THE VICTIM'S CHEST UNTIL HELP ARRIVES - WORKS JUST AS WELL AS STANDARD C-P-R FOR SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST IN ADULTS.

EXPERTS HOPE BYSTANDERS WILL NOW BE MORE WILLING TO JUMP IN AND HELP IF THEY SEE SOMEONE SUDDENLY COLLAPSE. HANDS-ONLY C-P-R IS SIMPLER AND EASIER TO REMEMBER AND REMOVES A HUGE BARRIER FOR PEOPLE SKITTISH ABOUT MOUTH-TO-MOUTH BREATHING.

HANDS-ONLY C-P-R CALLS FOR UNINTERRUPTED CHEST PRESSES - 100 PER MINUTE - UNTIL OPARAMEDICS TAKE OVER OR UNTIL AN AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILATOR IS AVAILABLE TO RESTORE NORMAL HEART RHYTHM. THIS ACTION SHOULD ONLY BE TAKEN FOR ADULTS WHO UNEXPECTEDLY COLLAPSE, STOP BREATHING AND ARE UNRESPONSIVE.

SO - DOCTORS SAY - IF YOU'RE FACED WITH THOSE KIND OF CIRCUMSTANCES, YOU ONLY HAVWE TO DO TWO THINGS. CALL 9-1-1 AND PUSH HARD ON THE MIDDLE OF THE PERSON'S CHEST UNTIL HELP ARRIVES.

(PV RESTRICTIONS EASED) (PiP-PV panels)

J: PHOTOVOLTAIC ENERGY - PV FOR SHORT - TURNING SUNLIGHT DIRECTLY INTO ELECTRICITY. YOU SEE MORE AND BIGGER PROJECTS COMING ON LINE ALL THE TIME. THAT'S BEEN GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS. THE GOOD NEWS, OF COURSE, IS THAT IT MEANS THAT MUCH LESS OIL NEEDS TO BE BURNED TO CREATE POWER. THE BAD NEWS, THOUGH, HAS BEEN THAT THE ELECTRIC COMPANY CAN ONLY HANDLE SO MANY SUCH SYSTEMS ADDED TO THE OVERALL GRID BEFORE THEY RISK LOSING MONEY. TO PREVENT THAT, ONLY ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT OF ALL THE POWER GENERATED IN HAWAII HAS BEEN ALLOWED FROM RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES LIKE THE SUN AND WIND. WELL, NOW THAT NUMBER HAS BEEN DOUBLED.

Brad Albert, pres., HI PV Coalition/ Owner Rising Sun Solar

BA01: "...Everybody said let's raise it to 1 percent cap limit and raise the maximum project size to 100 KW system size. So they increased the system size by double and they doubled the generating capacity."

WHILE NO OTHER ISLAND IN THE STATE IS TOO CLOSE TO THE OLD LIMIT - YET, SYSTEMS LIKE THE RECENTLY INSTALLED 60 KILOWATT SYSTEM ON TOP OF THE MAUI ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD BUILDING IN KIHEI ARE PUSHING THE LIMIT HERE ON MAUI.

BA01-B "We were essentially at the cap. Another 10 systems or less than 10 systems and we would have hit the cap on Maui."

BUSINESS LIKE MAUI HARLEY DAVIDSON HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT AND POWER FROM PANELS ON THEIR ROOF TOP. MEDB SHARES WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS IN THEIR BUILDING, AND ALONGSIDE THOSE WATER HEATING SOLAR PANELS, MORE AND MORE HOMES ARE ADDING PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS ACROSS MAUI.

BA02: "The industry is growing exponentiall for two reasons. One, there's a tipping point., people see it and they learn about it and want one. The other is the cost of energy. It's gone up more than 20 percent from January of 2007 to January of '08."

HOW MUCH DO THESE THINGS COST? WITH TAX CREDITS - SOME OF WHICH EXPIRE AT THE END OF THIS YEAR - AND FAVORABLE LOANS, MONTHLY PAYMENTS COULD BE LESS THAN YOU'RE PAYING FOR YOUR ELECTRIC BILL - PLUS YOU'D BE ON WHEN EVERYONE ELSE ISN'T - LIKE DURING MAUI'S POWER FAILURE YESTERDAY. FINALLY, ALBERT REFLECTED ON THE WHO IDEA OF KEEPING A LID ON THE AMOUNT OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS ALLOWED.

BA03: "The state should have a goal instead of a limit. Solar is a viable product as part of renewable energy and whether its five percent or 20 or 30 percent, it's a technology that is available today, yet we're being hindered by the fact that there's a cap."

THERE CERTAINLY IS NO LIMIT TO THE SOURCE. ACCORDING TO ALBERT, EVERY TWO MINUTES, THE SUN GIVES THE EARTH MORE ENERGY THAN IS USED - WORDLWIDE - IN AN ENTIRE YEAR.

JY: UP NEXT IN SPORTS, UNTIL LAST FRIDAY THERE WERE THREE UNDEFEATED TEAMS ATOP DIVISION ONE IN M-I-L BASEBALL. SOMETHING HAD TO GIVE. KALAPANA WILL HAVE HIGHLIGHTS FOR YOU UP NEXT IN SPORTS ON MAUI TV NEWS.

J: THEN, EVERYTHING FROM CLASSICAL MUSIC TO CLASSIC CARS - ALL COMING TO THE VALLEY ISLE. HOLLY CHUNG WILL RUN DOWN THE WIDE VARIETY OF CHOICES IN COMING ATTRACTIONS WHEN MAUI TV NEWS CONTINUES.

(sports) (PiP-Sports)

K: AND THEN THERE WERE TWO. ALOHA EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO SPORTS ON MAUI TV NEWS. I'M KALAPANA.

IT WAS A GENUINE "PITCHER'S DUEL" FRIDAY NIGHT WHEN UNBEATEN RIVALS MAUI HIGH AND KAMEHAMEHA MAUI FACED OFF AT MAEHARA STADIUM. WHEN THE DUST SETTLED, THE SLIMMEST OF MARGINS SAW MAUI HIGH EMERGE THE WINNERS IN A 1-NOTHING SHUTOUT.

THERE WAS A REMATCH SATURDAY, AND, AFTER FRIDAY NIGHT'S BATTLE , THE WARRIORS WERE DETERMINED TO NOT LET THAT HAPPEN AGAIN. SO, THEY QUICKLY PUT THREE RUNS UP ON THE BOARD IN THE FIRST INNING.

(VO) SECOND INNING ACTION FOR YOU NOW AND WITH ALIKA AHEONG ON THE MOUND FOR THE SABERS, AND IT LOOKED LIKE THINGS WERE GOING THE WAY OF THE WARRIORS WHEN NOAH FACURI'S GROUNDER SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN EASY OUT - BUT A SABER ERROR KEPT HIM SAFE - MUCH TO THE DELIGHT OF THE KAMEHAMEHA FAITHFUL. THAT'S NUMBER 7, JACOB BABAUTA IN THE BULL PEN WARMING UP FOR MAUI HIGH - BUT MORE ABOUT HIM LATER. HERE KEENAN KALUAU'S SACRIFICE BUNT ADVANCES FACURI TO SECOND. BUT JORDAN CAMARA ONLY GETS A PIECE OF THIS AND POPS OUT TO AHEONG. WARRIOR AARON ASATO'S HOT GROUNDER TO THIRD ALMOST KEP THE INNING GOING WHEN JOSH GASCON'S THROW WAS WAY HIGH, BUT SABER REY MOLINA SKYS TO SNAGS IT AND LANDS IN TIME FOR THE TAG.

TRAVIS MANUEL'S BASE HIT STARTS THE SABERS TURN AT BAT IN THE SECOND. NEXT UP JORDAN AGCAOILI TAKES A MIGHTY SWING AT THIS ONE. FEEL THE BREEZE? BUT HE SIZZLES ONE PAST FIRST AND ADVANCES MANUEL. NEXT, JORDAN INAMASU SHOWS BUNT WAY TOO EARLY AND THE WARRIORS GET THE EASY FORCE AT 3RD. AND SURE MANUEL IS OUT, BUT TO TO KEEP THE GAME EXCITING, HE TRIES A CARTWHEEL ON THE WAY BACK TO THE DUGOUT WHILE DODGING A TOSSED BAT. IT WAS GOOD DEFENSIVE WORK IN VAIN WHEN WARRIOR'S AARON ASATO WALKS MAUI HIGH'S PETER IBANEZ AND THE BASES ARE LOADED - WITH BIG NUMBER 44, REY MOLINA COMING TO THE PLATE.

THIS WAS A TENSE GAME AS ASATO STARED DOWN MOLINA, THEN THREW THIS STRIKE TO EVEN THE COUNT AT TWO AND TWO WITH THE BASES LOADED AND ONE OUT. BUT YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS NEXT PLAY CLOSELY. WITH THE BASES LOADED AND A FULL COUNT, MOLINA SHOWS BUNT! WHAT? THE BALL IS ON THE WAY...AND SO IS JORDAN AGCAOILI STEALING FROM THIRD. THE BALL POPS OUT OF MASON CASTILLON'S GLOVE AND JORDAN IS SAFE!

WOW! LET'S SE THAT AGAIN IN SLOW-MO. JUST AS ASATO RELEASES THIS BALL, HERE COMES SABER JORDAN AGCAOILI DOWN THE THIRD BASE LINE. THE BALL IS A CALLED STRIKE. BUT SINCE THE CATCHER DROPS THE BALL, IT'S A LIVE PLAY. A LITTLE LUCK AND REALLY SMART PLAYING BY THE SABERS PUTS THEM ON THE BOARD. TWO PITCHES LATER SABER JUSTON FONTANILLA POWERS ONE THROUGH THE HOLE SCORING JORDAN INAMASU AND SUDDENLY IT'S THREE-TWO.

TOP OF THE THIRD NOW AND KAMEHAMEHA'S NAEA KALEHUAWEHE TAKES SEVERAL CUTS BEFORE FINALLY LOFTING ONE RIGHT TO SABER MITCH CRIM IN CENTER. NEXT WARRIOR EVAN GARCES AIMS STRAIGHT FOR LEFT CENTER BUT NO! SHORT STOP JORDAN AGCAOILI FLIES TO SNAG THE LINE DRIVE. AND THAT WAS JUST MOMENTS AFTER HIS HEAD'S UP STEAL OF HOME! AND HE'S NOT DONE YET! MORE ON THAT IN A MOMENT.

BOTTOM OF THE THIRD AND ANOTHER GROUNDER UP THE MIDDLE RESULTS IN A WARRIOR ERROR AS A WADE THROW PULLS KALEHUAWEHE OFF THE BAG AND TEVEN MASULIT-DEVERA IS SAFE. NEXT JASH GASCON SQUARES OFF AND HIS SACRIFICE SENDS TEVEN TO SECOND. A LONG HOT DAY FOR ASATO AS HE FALLS BEHIND TRAVIS MANUEL, THEN WALKS HIM ON THIS PITCH - TO BRING UP THE RED HOT SABER, NUMBER 20, JORDAN AGCAOILI. FIVE PITCHES LATER AND THE SOUND SAYS IT ALL (PAUSE) DING! GOODBYE! (pause) GETTING EVERY INCH OF THAT ONE, JORDAN'S THREE-RUN HOMER PUTS IN THE SABERS IN FRONT EARNING HIM CONGRATS FROM THE COMPETITION (PAUSE), GETS HIM A FEW "ATTA BOY'S" AT HOME PLATE. ..AND THEN A FEW FRIENDS DROP BY TO SHARE IN THE MOMENT. YUP, THAT'S 370 FEET!

FOURTH INNING NOW AND - FROM MY DAYS ON THE DIAMOND - UNLESS I MISS MY GUESS, THAT SIGNAL MEANS, UH-HUH, BUNT. ...OR MAYBE, STEAL SECOND. YEAH, THAT'S IT. LIKE FUJIHARA IS SAFE. NOAH FACURI'S SOLID BASE HIT SCORES FUJIHARA ALL THE WAY FROM SECOND WITH HIS STAND-UP DOUBLE.

BUT REMEMBER WE TOLD YOU EARLIER WE'D BRING UP SABER NUMBER SEVEN AGAIN? JACOB BABAUTA WAS THE HERO FRIDAY NIGHT, RETIRING NINE OF THE 10 BATTERS HE FACED TO PICK UP THE SAVE IN MAUI HIGH'S WIN OVER KAMEHAMEHA. NOW HE FACES A POTENTIAL WARRIOR UPRISING AGAIN. BUT, IT ONLY TOOK FIVE PIRCHES TO FINISH OFF JORDAN CAMARA FOR THE JUNIOR TRANSFER FROM THE ISLAND OF SAIPAN.

(ON-CAM) THE SABERS WENT ON TO ADD ONE MORE RUN IN THE FIFTH AND THAT'S HOW IT ENDED...THE FINAL SCORE OF SIX TO FOUR KEEPS THE SABERS TIED FOR FIRST IN THE MIL.

(FF-CG-VO) THEY SHARE THE TOP SPOT WITH BALDWIN - WHO BEAT DEFENDING CHAMPS SAINT ANTHONY ON SATURDAY TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED. KAMEHAMEHA MAUI MOVES TO FOUND AND TWO WHILE KING KEKAULIKE AND LAHAINALUNA HAVE ONE WIN APIECE. IN DIVISION TWO, THE FARMERS ARE ON TOP AFTER SCORING 27 RUNS IN TWO GAMES OVER KAHAUMANU HOU ON SATURDAY. SAINT ANTHONY IS AT FIVE HUNDRED AND SEABURY HALL IS TWO AND FOUR.

(ON-CAM) INCIDENTALLY, THAT DIVISION ONE MATCHUP THAT EVERYONE WANTS TO SE ISN'T SCHEDULED UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON WHEN MAUI HIGH AND BALDWIN FACE EACH OTHER ON APRIL 18TH AND NINETEENTH.

AND THAT'S A LOOK AT SPORTS FOR THIS WEEK. IF YOUR TEAM HAS A SEASON - OR SPECIAL SPORTING EVENT COMING UP AND YOU'D LIKE PEOPLE TO SIGN OR SHOW UP, THEN GET THE WORD TO US FIRST. SEND YOUR NOTICES TO SPORTS AT MAUITVNEWS-DOT-COM. WE'LL DO WHAT WE CAN TO GET A VIDEO TEAM OUT THERE TO CAPTURE THE ACTION. FOR MAUI TV NEWS I'M KALAPANA.
